Domains at War supply questions

Looking at costs for mercenary units, the Specialist Cost includes 1 Master armorer, 2 journeymen, and 4 apprentices.  The description for a Craftsman's Workshop says that one is required for a Master to improve the productivity of his journeymen and apprentices.

1. True or false: it's not enough to have the pyramid of master, journeymen, apprentices to get the extra efficiencies.  You must also have the Workshop to get them.

2. If you buy a Craftsman's Workshop, does it come with the wagon and horses required to transport it?  Or is that an extra cost?

3. Units have a Supply Cost for feeding the troops and their animals, as well as the pack horses carrying the food and their handlers.  Does that Supply Cost factor in the cost of feeding the Specialists and their horses?

Next question: the party wants to bring a supply train to carry any loot they discover in the wilderness.  They buy 20 pack horses.  According to D@W, packbeasts don't have a Handler cost, just a Supply cost.  Who feeds and grooms the pack horses?

1. True or false: it's not enough to have the pyramid of master, journeymen, apprentices to get the extra efficiencies.  You must also have the Workshop to get them.

It is true that a master must have a Craftsman's Workshop to improve the efficiency of his assistants. It is not true that you, the employer, need to provide the Workshop. The master hired in a market has one by default.

2. If you buy a Craftsman's Workshop, does it come with the wagon and horses required to transport it?  Or is that an extra cost?

If you, an adventurer, purchase a Craftsman's Workshop, and wish to transport it for your personal use or the use of a henchman on adventures, then you would need to purchase the wagons and horses. If you hire a master to perform work for you in a market, you do not need to worry about the workshop, the horses, or the wagons. HOWEVER, an army of sufficient size creates its own market.

Per D@W, "An army of even modest size will be accompanied by a baggage train that includes merchants, craftsmen, and tinkers that supply the army with its equipment. This allows an army of 1,200 troops (12 units) or more to function as its own market for purposes of equipment availability, as shown on the adjacent table."

3. Units have a Supply Cost for feeding the troops and their animals, as well as the pack horses carrying the food and their handlers.  Does that Supply Cost factor in the cost of feeding the Specialists and their horses?

Yes. Under normal circumstances, Specialists do not have a separate supply cost (it so de minimis as to not be worth calculating). If particular circumstances arise that make it relevant, the Judge can of course calculate it.

Alex, thanks for the reply.

Wanted to make sure you saw my other question: the party wants to bring a supply train to carry any loot they discover in the wilderness.  They buy 20 pack horses.  According to D@W, packbeasts don't have a Handler cost, just a Supply cost.  Who feeds and grooms the pack horses?

That reminds me, I've been meaning to ask: How many stones does a Craftsman's Workshop weigh? The Player's Companion gives its cost and size when set up, but not its encumberance for the purposes of loading it on a wagon.
