Leadership and economy of Muntsburg

Questions largely for James, although I’d be interested to know how other Judges have decided these questions when they’ve run Dwimmermount!

  • What level is the commander of the Fortress of Muntsburg? James has said that his earliest version was based on the Keep on the Borderlands, where the Castellan is only 6th level. In ACKS terms - which is to say our understanding of how this stuff was handled in the earliest roots of the game - this guy is out of his depth; a 9th level fighter would normally be expected to rule such a fortification.

  • What size is the Fortress? The Keep from B2 is a pretty impressive structure, which would cost 393,000 gp to construct according to ACKS. Again, this is beyond the Castellan’s pay grade, which creates some interesting possibilities for play. Is Muntsburg the same size, or is it more town and less castle?

  • Do we know anything about where Muntsburg’s ruler fits into the local hierarchy - does he owe fealty to others, does he have vassals of his own, etc.?

The prefect of Muntburg in my home campaign is a 7th-level fighting man.

Muntburg is roughly the same general size as the Keep, but a little more of it is given over to “civilian” activities.

The prefect is appointed by the Senate of Adamas with the approval of the Despot.
