Dynamic Lairs

CRAB SPIDERS
North of town, a small road winds its way through the hills. Along one portion, a craggy stone cliff leers above the side of the path. From a cleft, three crab spiders lie in wait for their next meal. They are partial to halfling. In a pouch next to a child-sized corpse is 500ep and 5 bloodstones worth 50gp each.
Crab Spiders (3): AC 2, Move 120’ (40’), HD 2**, hps 9 each, #ATS 1 (bite), Dmg 1d8+poison, SV F1, ML 1, AL N, XP 38 each (114 total); ACKS p. 194.

Shrine of Enigma
Atop a small hillock lie the ruins of a shrine to Enigma, a forgotten god of riddles and mazes. There is next to nothing left of the shrine now, but the ritual maze underneath still stands, and is home to 3 minotaurs.

Minotaurs (3): AC 3 HD 6 HP 27 Mv 120’ (40’) 2 attacks (1 gore/1 bite) 5+ Dmg 1d6/1d6 Save F6 Morale +4 TT L, G XP: 320
One wields a shortsword +1 that gives off light in a 30’ radius. He hits on a 4+ and does 1d6+3 damage, and wears a ring of protection +1 giving him AC: 4.
The treasure is in a chest buried in the center of the maze, and consists of:
6,000cp; 5,000ep; pouch of belladonna (10gp); crystal stone (50gp); hematite (10gp); moonstone (50gp); 2 turquoise stones (50gp); 3 holy symbols (2/6 stone, 180gp); scrimshaw trinket (9gp); potion of extra-healing; cursed scroll (draconic, -4 CHA)
Also in the center of the maze are:
7 crates of arms (10 stone, 225gp each); 1 crate of glassware (5 stone, 200gp); 4 small barrels of liquor (64 stone, 800gp); 3 barrels of beer (90 stone, 96gp); 5 rolls of cloth (20 stone, 50gp)

Lair of the Scabrous Harpies

Map as well as name borrowed from Dyson Logos. I have it in print in Dyson’s Delves II, but its online here:
http://rpgcharacters.wordpress.com/2013/08/06/tuesday-map-the-scabrous-harpies-2-maps/

For a nest of 2d4 harpies, I rolled only four. So…

Harpies (4). AC 2, Move 60’(20’)/Fly 150’(50’), Hit Dice 3*, Hit Points: 15, 10, 11, 13 Attacks: 3 (2 claws, weapon, plus song), Damage 1d4/1d4/1d6, plus Charm from song, Save as F6, Morale -1, XP 65

The harpies nest in the front room of level A, where they brood over 3 eggs (of unknown value and viability). The 15 hit point harpy wields a short sword +1 which casts Command Word once per day, and wears the ancient regalia of an obscure goddess of love and fertility (+1 non-magical AC from piecework armor, one piece ruined each time an attack misses by exactly 1. 2 copper bracers, 1 copper torc, 1 copper coronet, 100 gp each, but the complete set would be worth 500 gp or more to the right buyer).

The natural room behind them holds a small brass-bound chest containing their most valuable treasures: 8 long quartz crystals (10 gp each), a loose faceted diamond (1000 gp), an intricate silver skull cap (600 gp) and a single potion (Philter of Love).

The door to the room off the carved hallway behind them is barred from the outside. The room holds their prisoner, a bard (level 2) who has managed to stay on their good side by matching their songs with his. He is, obviously, grateful for release.

A trickle of a spring fills a muddy hole in the rearmost room on level A.

B holds a very different prisoner, a nude and dirty man born with the head of a hawk but no wings, the mutant son of the oldest harpy. He cannot speak, and makes a reaction roll as normal, but responds well to food.
Hawk-headed man. AC 0, Move 120’(40’), Hit Dice 2, Hit Points 12, 2 attacks (bite and weapon), damage 1d6 bite/1d6 sharpened femur, save F2, XP 20.

On level C, stairs lead down from ground level of the cliff face inside a corridor still lined with worn bas-relief carvings. In the first room entered, a colony of ordinary bats sleeps during daylight. Not hostile, they are awakened by loud noises or sudden movements, alerting the harpies on level A to intruders after 1 turn of random flight through the caves.

A storeroom to the side holds the harpies’ heavier and less valuable treasures:
9000 copper pieces in 5 small sacks, 5 barrels salted fish (5 gp, 8 stone each), 6 barrels of beer (10 gp, 8 stone each), 4 cords white oak (5 gp, 8 stone each), and 20 bars of stock iron (1 gp, 1/2 stone each).

The rearmost room is empty, but the center of the vaulted ceiling is as high as the room is long, and the harpies can fly comfortably here if they are inclined.

Your work on this thread is awesome. I would totally pick this up as a PDF off DriveThru. Thanks for all the awesome ideas!
